[Musebox] - "We Should Have Stayed In That Cave"
It had taken time to adjust to the island of Medietas, longer than it had for him to grow used to life at the Wall, despite being older and having matured. Jon had the good fortune to have his father returned to him, as well as his other siblings. There was less of a burden on his shoulders, far less guilt. While he would always bear a measure of it, he at least had his father's approval and warmth, something he had wanted all of his life.
It didn't remove the frustration and disgust he felt for himself about his actions at the Wall. While he didn't regret choosing the Night's Watch and the honor that he had been taught to uphold, he did hate that it had been at the cost of the woman he loved. They were two forces pulled apart by opposite directions, following the will of different men. He had betrayed her, something that she had asked him not to, yet he had done so anyway.
Because of him, Ygritte had passed away in his arms. A single moment that was simply theirs, not simply his attempts to garner information or hers to sway his loyalty. A rare moment of honesty, but at the cost of her life.
As he often did when thoughts of the world weighed him down, Jon walked along the pathways of Aerilion. He would look over the side of the island, recalling the feeling of seeing Westeros from the height of the Wall. It was a sensation quite like this one, heady and dizzying. It helped make him feel so small, so inconsequential. His actions might have been painful, but they were minuscule in the face of the great world.
A flash of red appeared in his peripheral, familiar and painful all at once. Simply assuming it was another red head, he only gave the woman a passing glance...then turned towards her more hastily, his heart held in a vice grip. Of all the things he had seen on Medietas, this was among the most remarkable. "Ygritte?"
