IC INFORMATION

Character Name: Jon Snow
Canon: Game of Thrones
Canon Point: 7x07
Background: Wiki

Suitability: Jon is a natural leader and often finds himself thrust into situations where he is called upon to protect people and fight in wars that he might normally try to avoid. In canon, when he is helping to defend the Wall, he is put in charge of the forces and leads the men into battle. One of the examples of Jon being drawn into a political situation not his own is when he takes up the cause of the Freefolk. He only lived among them for a short time, but he becomes an advocate for them and helps them move south of the Wall to save their lives. He even fights the Others alongside them at Hardhome, saving as many people as he can.

In this game, Jon will likely understand that his time here is something he should take advantage of, and while he's tired of fighting, he's likely to be drawn into the conflict in one way or another. I don't know yet which side he will fall on, but he will fall into one and try to recruit more people to the cause. He certainly will explore a bit to get a sense of the world and the people, as he was introduced to that concept with the Freefolk. When he learns about people falling sick, he'll do what he can to aid them.

He's very kindhearted and has a large sense of honor, so he's not someone to stand on the sidelines when people are suffering. If anything, I expect for him to have a number of soldiers and recruits that he will oversee, acting as a general.

Powers: Jon is considered one of the best swordsmen in Westeros and well trained in combat. He's a skilled survivalist and shows talent in strategy. Otherwise, he's an ordinary human.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them. I honestly think that Jon's life in general impacts him. Being a bastard, he's always grown up as an outsider. He's had to deal with scorn and mockery, being treated as if he were less than other people. It meant that he had to work harder and better to achieve anything. The whole reason he joined the Night's Watch was because he was told that a man earns his position due to skill, rather than birth. When he is later named King in the North, it comes at the tail end of a hard fought battle, one he almost lost. He's suddenly being called a hero and lauded for his actions. One of the leaders of his bannermen even dismisses the idea that he's a bastard, saying that he has the same worth as any of his trueborn siblings. He's accepted for himself in that moment and it gives him a great deal of confidence going forward.

One of the other moments to impact his life is oddly his death. He was killed at the Wall by his own men for letting the Freefolk south of the Wall. Men he trusted and that he viewed as friends lured him to the courtyard where they stabbed him with daggers. He was then resurrected by Melisandre, a priestess of the Lord of Light. The event was extremely disturbing for him. We see through facial reactions that at first he doesn't understand what happened until he sees his scars and has a full blown panic attack. Being brought back to life stayed with him, haunted him. He questioned the things he did and the decisions he made, feeling like a failure. He also comes to fear death as well in a sense because of the nothingness he saw there. Meeting the void again when he is brought to game will take him back to that moment.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by? He has a very strong moral code that he learned from his father. Jon has a rigid sense of honor he lives by. While he has broken some of those rules, namely bedding a woman outside of marriage and breaking his vows to the Night's Watch, he holds firm to the rest. He does what he can to uphold the law, following the ancient Northern tradition of "he who passes the sentence swings the sword." He is uncompromising one lying, even in situations where it would help his cause and be largely advised. He nearly costs an alliance in the Great War because he refuses not to take a side in the battle between Daenerys and Cersei, having already pledged his fealty to Dany.

He learned as well the value of not judging other cultures based on the misconceptions and prejudices he grew up with. Ygritte was a large influence in this, using "You know nothing Jon Snow" as a reminder that he didn't see things clearly about the Freefolk or their way of life. She introduced him to their culture and found the means to open him up to new ways of thinking. With Tormund, he learned to respect those that were different from him and found more loyalty in the Freefolk than he did Northerners. It is why he is willing so often to come to the aid of those that need it without question. He learned that such gestures can win a great deal of respect and allies. Tormund especially helped to shape him into a leader, convincing him often to take charge. The more he worked alongside the Freefolk, the more his mind opened and he became self reliant, confident and stronger.
What quality or qualities do they admire most? Honesty, loyalty, justice and kindness. He tends to be caught off guard by anyone who isn't cynical and truly believes in goodness. He might worry they are naïve, but he would want to protect that instinct, as he's seen so much darkness in the world. Those that are brave and willing to fight, no matter the disadvantage that they're at, he is drawn to as well. He really admires Lyanna Mormont, despite her being a young girl, she is willing to help in the Battle of the Bastards, believing him about the Others and the Night King.

These are things he admires in the Freefolk as well, having seen them rally around someone who champions their cause and looks after them. He sees as well the potential for different sides to come together to form a united front that is almost unbeatable. It's why he returns to the Freefolk again and again for help, as he knows they will give it because of his aid to them.

Daenerys is the epitome of everything he believes a ruler should be. She wants to be on the front lines, to fight alongside her men. She is helpful and caring to her people, willing to do whatever she can for their benefit. That she even puts aside her ambitions to fight for the North without any guarantee of something in return, that is the moment that Jon puts aside being king and bends the knee to Dany, swearing fealty.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike? Jon would probably argue much about himself, he doesn't like, but he's grown a lot more since his boyhood. He's still self deprecating and doesn't think he's very special. As much as he's grown thicker skin about being a bastard, no longer letting the taunts bother him, I think the lack of knowledge about his identity and past still bothers him. He doesn't know anything about his mother and his childhood weighs on him. He was never treated the same as his brothers and sisters and never had a comforting influence. Even his father was largely distant in a way, only telling Jon that he was a Stark when he was leaving for the Wall.

All of his failures hang heavily on him. His broken vows, his lost loves and the mistakes he made. It's why he never talks about his death. He would have to revisit the decisions he made that lead to it and later his execution of his murderers, which didn't really feel like justice for him. All of that makes him a introspective person and one who is withdrawn from others.

What is their sign, and why? The Emperor. Jon is a military person and a natural leader. He's steady, reliable and responsible, wanting the best for people and trying to ensure their stability. In the Game of Thrones tarot, this was one of the major signs assigned to Jon. He falls under a man that is a hard worker, disciplined and has a great deal of self control. There's no better fit for him.
